About The Event

Long established as the opening event of our festival weekend, The Tyne 6 Bridges ride attracts cyclists of all abilities, united in the desire for a fun, well-organised and signposted ride along traffic-free routes.

There are two routes of 7 miles and 15 miles (view routes in details here), both ideal for those who want a leisurely and fun cycling experience and perfect for occasional cyclists or those who want to ride with young families. You can choose which route to ride on the day - you entry covers you for both options.

The rides use the largely traffic-free Sustrans Routes 72 & 14 going out, eastwards along the south bank of the Tyne and returning westwards along the north bank.

New HQ Location

We have a new event HQ location for 2024, Newburn Activity Centre. This means that, although the routes remain substantially unchanged, they start at the upstream (or western) end of the ride, rather than the downstream (eastern) end. Newburn Activity Centre offers us more space, more free parking and a generally more relaxed environment than our previous HQ locations close to the centre of the city. It's also likely to be an easier location to reach, being close to the A1.

Entries: all entries are £12 - entries close 1 July 2024.

Start Times

You can choose on the day which ride you wish to undertake. Riders will start from 6.15pm onwards. There are no allocated start times - start whenever you want after 6.15pm, but please follow the instructions of our marshals during the pre-start and start (more details on page 6).

Riders will set off in pairs or singly in a steady “trickle”, not in larger groups as in previous years. We will aim to get you out on the road as promptly as possible once you are ready to depart. Please follow the directions of marshals and other event staff at all times.

At The Finish

All riders are expected to finish their chosen ride before 9pm. Upon finishing, report to the sign-on tent where we can check you in and hand you your Cyclone Goody Bag.
